Default Low Coolant Light

My 2001 monte calro SS seems to think it has low coolant. The light comes on every once in a while but the coolant level is good. Any ideas on whats wrong? The light turns on and off randomly.

When it's colder out does the light turn on? and Then the light goes out when the car reaches normal operating temperature??

If you are fine on coolant, I would get that coolant flushed. Dex-cool should be flushed every year (forget the 5 years 100,000 mile mark it says). That should fix the problem. If it does not fix the problem then you would want to check out the sensor, sometimes they get gunked up from the old coolant.

It's probably a bad sensor. I had the same issue in a 96 Lumina. I pulled the sensor, cleaned and reinstalled it first - I was told that they can get gunked up. That didn't help me though. Bought a new sensor ($48 - not cheap) and that fixed the problem.

I was due for my coolant flush of the year, and that cleared up my problem.

Alright, I'll try the flush first.

Where is that sensor located? My light comes on and then shuts off once the engine gets warm. The coolant level is fine.

I would really flush the system if it's been awhile, that could be the cause of that...

but I believe the sensor is on the passenger side of the radiator
