forward facing or rear facing?

usually car seats come with a strap so the car's belt is not needed

(the strap hooks into the metal loops connecting to the frame, unless your car is alot older)

Have you tried putting a folded up towel between the two?? It will keep your leather from getting marks in it from being indented. Whenever I have my cousins baby in my car, I always fold a towel in half and put in down on the seat before putting her car seat down. (she is still in the infant car seat, so I don't have the headrest problem yet...but the same thing happens to the bottom of the middle seat when I really tighten down the strap for the latch system.) But the towel still allows me to tighten down on it really good, and still pushes down on the seat, but does not let the car seat leave marks from pressing down so hard. Try sticking a folded towel between the car seat and headrest.

I do the towel under the car-seat when my nephew rides with me.
