Default Knock Knock

Hello all. I have 2007 Monte Carlo SS with just over 88K miles. I just recently had a tune up. Changed the ignition coil packs. Replaced the Coolant Sensor and Oil Pressure Sending Unit. Also changed to filter and wire connector attached to the Oil Pressure Sending Unit. However, Merlot as I call her has distinct knock. It would come and go until last Saturday night now it's constant after the engine heats up. The shop recommends a top half tear down to see what's the issue. Could the Active Fuel Management System aka Displacement on Demand lead to a bum lifter? Should I do a DOD delete? Luckily I have an aftermarket warranty that should cover the engine. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank You in advance.

FYI couldn't upload a video attachment due it being an mp4.

If you've got a warranty that covers it, I'd just chuck them the keys and let them deal with it. You're buying the warranty for peace of mind to not have to deal with that kind of stuff.

Bumpin is right. If this is covered by your warranty, exercise it (you paid for it, get your money's worth). And if there is a deductible for each warranty service, a knock (especially a rod knock) is going to be worth paying that deductible.

Default Engine Rebuild

Just to give an update. I got my engine rebuilt. Since I live in California, I was advised against a AFM/DOD delete. The last update I received was that she was running fine at idle. Anymore than that, she would begin to flutter. They're testing the fuel pump (waiting for an update on that). Also was advised that my fuel injectors may need to be replaced. I was like new injectors wasn't apart of the rebuild? Lord willing, I will get my girl back this week. I am grateful that my mom is letting me drive her '15 Nissan Rogue Select. BUT!!! That car was not made with a 6'4" driver in mind.

Ive had a shop claim that a rebuild could be as simple as JUST new piston rings....

That's the thing about insurance + aftermarket paid warranty places - their business is to make money for their shareholders as the #1 priority. The result of that is doing the absolute bare minimum to satisfy any claim made. Their goal was never to get you back to a 100% fresh engine - it was just to get the car back on the road with the least effort possible.

To be fair though, even if you took the car in for an engine rebuild out of your own pocket - they wouldn't automatically replace external engine stuff like that unless you specified it. It drives up the cost substantially to replace every single wear item top to bottom and at only 88k miles, you'd assume most of that stuff still has some good life left in it.
