Take it to Auto Zone or a place like that. I m sure you will find that the Alternator is not putting out enough AMPS......... Voltage regulator might be fine.... This problem is more to do with ampsnot volts......
Be willing to say it is not putting out enough amps.

I'm glad I found this forum cause my 78 Monte Carlo is doing the exact same thing. I went to auto Zone and got the free test done to my battery and alternator and he reported that my voltage regulator might be bad. he said he is not a 100% sure until i can bring in the alternator in by itself for further testing. My alternator was putting out 16 volts, I dont know how many amps it was producing i didnt ask nor did he tell me. So it may be the Voltage Regulator.

Have the same complaint with our 06 Uplander - lighs (headlights and interior) flickered when accelerating. Seemed to get worse over time. Was told that that was normal operation and was common in today's vehicles. Had in shop for other repairs (control arm ends) and had them check again before warrenty is up - they ended up changing out the voltage regulator. Have not driven the van much at night since we got it back, but have not noticed the flickering as I did before.

Son, bring the car to auto zone... they'll do a load test on the alternator and see if it's the problem.

I have the same issue with my 05 MC S-Charged SS. I have a Mechman 270v alt (I have a small system in my car), and a red top Otpima Gel cell batery. Under heavy acceleration, and the bass is not hitting, my headlights and dash lights dim. The other night my heated seats would not work tell half way home. But I will chech the ground wire for the battery. I hope it is not the alt... It is a $400 alt

Check all ground connections to insure they are clean/tight. When you installed the Mechman I assume you also replaced the battery cables and alternator supply wire with larger gauge cables that can handle the amperage demand?

Also note that red-tops are more for light-weight race cars, and yellow-tops are more for regular cars with a lot of electronics.

That's a good point. The red top are designed for starting, and the yellow top are designed for repeated charge/discharge cycles. If you have serious amperage demand a yellow top would be a better choice over the red top.

Thanks everyone. We did replace the alt wires with at least 4 gage. The red top was a good price at the time and I have been running it for a year with the system. My husband has a yellow top he used in this 05 Mustang GT before he wrecked it. I might swap out batteries after checking the grounds. I have the stock alt and will try that. We hope the Mechman alt is not going bad...
