I actually keep a spare set of those plastic elbows in my trunk in my "just in case" box.

Ditto. Except my spares are in my workbench. I figure I won't be making that repair along the side of the road...

I can vouch, I saw the "just in case" box. Even though I'm not carrying the elbos in my car, I don't disagree, knowing some simple common problems that are cheap and keeping the stuff readily available to fix it at a remote location goes a long way.

It may sound silly to have to own a car and carry "emergency supplies", but ALL manufacturers have their quarks (and you'll learn the quarks for the cars you own).

This is an old thread, but I had a question if someone wouldn't mind chiming in. I have a 2004 Monte Carlo with 3400 engine and 94,000 miles. I check for leaks every couple of weeks and so far, so good.

Normally, I feel that if something is not broken, then leave it alone. However, my son and I are taking a 2000 mile road trip this Thanksgiving and the thought of being stranded in the middle of nowhere doesn't sit well.

Should I go ahead and have the LIM gasket replaced with the Fel Pro gasket? I would have a shop do it...my wrenching skills are limited!

If you are not leaking coolant or oil, I see no reason to panic. When the LIM gaskets leak, it's typically not like a flood gate opened.... Just make sure your oil change is current for a 2,000 mile trip.
