Inop fuel gauge but do have low fuel light
Mechanic says the fuel sender is bad on my pump but if that was the case would the low fuel light still get triggered when the fuel gets that low? I was thinking the sender was still good just needs a new motor for the fuel gauge or cluster replacement. Thoughts?
I do know the previous owner had the same problem. He got a used fuel pump from a junk yard, installed it and did the same thing. First of all I don't know why he would get one from a wreck, maybe to keep costs down. I removed the cluster a few weeks ago to replace the passenger airbag and while it was out I manually moved the needle to 3/4 of a tank. When I shut the car off all the gauges go back to the far left except that one. It almost seems dead. I just bought another cluster and have to pull the dash back apart to replace the top dash pad so I will try a different cluster then.
