Default injector placement on fuel rail

What is the correct placement of the injectors on the fuel rail? If you are holding the rail in your hand, fuel lines to the left, and the rail turned over so you are pushing the injector down into the rail. Yep, I did another rookie bonehead move, thought my memory would suffice.....

What year and engine are we talking about?

Here's my injectors sitting in the rail of my 3800

Default injector placement

It is a 97 3001 rail going on a 05 3400. I think I figured it out. The wires are marked and the cylinders are marked on the intake manifold. So if I did it right, I have 1,3,5 on the left and 2,4,6 on the right.

there is only one way that fuel rail goes on that engine, you cannot physically put the stock fuel rail on backwards, its impossible...

the fuel lines, input and return, should be on the right side (driver side) while looking at the engine bay from the front.

Default You are correct

I guess I was unclear, I was really trying to figure out the placement of the injector electrical connectors, not the rail! BUT, I think I figured it out. I got all of that buttoned up and I am now going to change out the timing gears and chain as well as the water pump. I figured as long as I had the engine out, I might as well do it. The engine is out of a 05 Impala and they said it only had 50 k miles, and it is clean and all but for the $$ I figured it was better to do it. I also changed the water pump. I changed over the sensors to 3100 as I am using the 3100 CPU. I used the timing cover from the 3100 so I did not have to cut off the extras pulley boss. Hopefully on my next day off I can get it back into the car and see it run.......

you will need to use the 3100 injectors as well unless you reprogram the PCM to accept the larger 3400 injector flow rate.

You are correct, I just swapped over the 3100 fuel system, that way the computer is getting what it is looking for. I did the same with all the sensors, just put new ones in. Tomorrow on my day off I will figure out the throttle body and egr. Getting closer to being done!

Sounds like good and steady progress Pat!! That's great. Once it's done, I bet you'll enjoy some extra pep from a 3400 instead of the 3100!!

Default Pep

I hope it has a little extra umph. The EGR looks a little confusing, but I'll figure it out. I have tried to remove as many unknowns as possible by using new sensors and such. I used the 3100's timing cover so I did not need to cut off the extra pulley boss, used the 3100 harmonic balancer although I am sure the 3400's would be the same. Since I had it open, I replaced the timing gears and chain. New water pump etc. I spent a few hundred more than I most likely needed to but I know the parts are new and it is a heck of a lot easier to change them when the engine is out! NOW, let's just pray that it runs when the key is turned..........................

Should swap to a 4t65 also. Using a 2000-01 harness and pcm you can run the 3400 with matching injectors and rails(superior to 98 and earlier 3100 stuff) and hook up a 4t65 while running a better fuel/air mix for the 3400. Did the swap on my 97 myself b4 I eventually l67 swapped(actually made the l67 swap easier too lol)
