Ignition won't start
im going through another issues here with my 1999 Monte Carlo. Someone stole my keys after a home burglary and my grandson tried to start my car with a screw driver totally screwed it up .put a new ignition in it. Now the key had no chip I n t so I had one made .it didn't work either so the car comes on withe key that came with the ignition but won't start it has the security light flashing. Can i reset it anyway orhow do I bypass this problem to get my car started .please any help will do. I'm doing this myself I do know some about cars but this has me confused .Karen gives up
I'd check that the ignition wires under the dash are all getting proper power when they're supposed to with a multimeter. If they are, it makes me think it could be a security issue (perhaps the new key is the wrong resistance). How did you determine the resistance to use on the new key?
One thing that you might have been able to do is. Take the VIN number into the local GM dealer and they can send off to GM for the Key codes for that car, and they maybe able to create a new key for you. I think my local ACE hardware has chipped keys. So with the code you might be able to get a key from them also. That stuff the kids see on TV usually doesn't work. Check the link from google I put up below and there are a bunch of videos on this subject
