So, lately my 2000 monte carlo ss has been having problems starting. I originally thought it was a problem with the BCM. A couple weeks ago I turned on my blinker and it made a buzzing sound and seemed to restart the computer, abs and other lights came on for a second and then went away, now it has escalated and in order to get my car to start I have to quickly put the key in the ignition and turn it to start as fast as I can and sometimes that doesn't even work. My friend said that he looked it up and other people said they had the same problems until they took their keys in for this recall and after they added the insert to the key, all the problems went away. I don't know what to think at this point, I doubt that the key could cause all these problems, I think my friend is just telling me what he thinks I want to hear.

 

Has your security light been coming on at all?

 

pretty much every light on the dash has, it's even said "low tire pressure"

 

I would definitely try the ignition switch first, it's not expensive or hard to replace and can cause all kinds of strange things to happen when they start going bad

 

I will try it. I took my car in today for the recall but gm's "fix" is more of joke and it wouldn't change anything so I didn't waste my time.
