Default high pressure hose on power steering

Hey yall my high pressure hose is leaking. Has anyone replaced this themselves before? How do you get it loosened from the power steering gear behind the engine, ive heard to use a crows foot with a 2 foot extension but that was a no go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can't speak on the Monte, but I helped a friend with that on a Grand Prix. He loosened the line off the steering rack (he was able to better position himself to do it then I could).

If you can get some sort of saw blade, could cut the old line off and use a socket on the fitting (did that with a line replacement on my '94 Grand Am, worked out REALLY well).

Thanks. That tip came from a good mechanic friend of mine. It has paid off in more then one spot. I'd used this when working on brake lines too!

I have the ps pump off the head right now sitting in the engine compartment, looks like you could just uncurl the hose and hang it from the hood that would give you some room.

thanks for all the tips, did this on Saturday morning at 1am finished at 530 am. We decided to try and follow the repair manual which was no help and didn't have anything to cut the hose but we eventually got it off and the new one on and now its working great.
