Arrow - Help Please on Idle control Valve ?

Hey guys, having a bit of an issue ONLY when. The car is cold... It starts right up, and dies UNLESS I'm giving it a lil bit of gas thru the accelerator. Once the car has warmed up it starts fine without any assistance. I'm thinking about replacing the ICV but before I did, wanted to get some education on this... I thank you all in advance for any assistance I can get... Mjclemm...

I hope one of our expert member's see's your thread
When did you change your fuel filter last ?
Could be some bad `gas ?
Does it idle Ok after it warms `up ?
Have you shut it `off after it warms `up & then tried again to see `if it happens again ?
How much gas in the tank when this happened ? Do you have the original fuel pump ?

Thanks all my tired mind can think of for now...
I hope others can help more > Good Luck 4-Sure

Have the car computer scanned. Even if the check engine light is not lit, it may have a code that a good scan tool can obtain.

Off the top of my head, I would wonder how many miles are on the current plugs, fuel filter and O2 sensors. Is the car doing something to cause it to run too much fuel or not enough. Perhaps check the fuel pressure on a cold start and see what it's at.

The problem exists weather I have a full fuel tank or a quarter tank, I haven't replaced the filter in awhile so that does need to be done. However, once the car is warm, it starts right up as it should. It's not a huge deal, just one that. Bugs me when someone else starts my car all I hear is complaining...lol....
Thanks for the input, ill change the filter and reply to the results.... Mjclemm...

Thanks for the reply...mi have a scan tool and it doesn't show any codes. The O2 sensors are brand new (6months old?) and the fuel filter is in need of replaceing, so I will end up replacing (but as I said above, it runs and starts PERFECT once the engine is warm)

Ill let you know the results of the fuel filter change... Thanks...mjclemm...

It's possible that the idle control valve is the culprit, but I would check for a vacuum leak as part of my diagnosis. A defective ICV will usually cause the engine to die no matter what temp it is. Check all around the intake manifold, throttle body mounting, pcv valve, hoses, etc. And check for a leak when the engine is cold. Once the engine comes up to temp the metal has expanded and may 'hide' a leak otherwise detectable. That would also explain why the engine dies when cold but continues to run once warmed up.

Pulled the ICV and turned it out 3 1/2 turns. Installed it after cleaning it up along with the o ring. It starts like a champ now.. Stays running just like it should. If I run into the problem again, I am just replacing the ICV... I thank you all for your assistance, helped me out a ton as always.. Ty...mjclemm..
