If I can do my own hub, its not that hard. Its just getting it to seperate from the knuckle was the hard part..

I read i will need a "Air hammer with chisel bit" if it is to get the old one off, where could i find a more detailed set of instructions on how to remove it?
Even if the bearing "comes apart", there is too much stuff to the suspension to cause the wheel to separate (I have removed bearing hub assemblies where I removed the axle nut and part of the assembly fell off in my hand).

Buying online is cheapest. Near me, Autozone is the only place that stocks Timken that I know of, and I can get it online about $30+ less then Autozone.

As for doing the job, it's remove the wheel, remove the brake caliper and rotor, remove the axle nut, remove the 3 retaining bolts for the hub, remove hub, then reverse (this is of course over simplified).
As for the air hammer. The GM shop book has you use a puller, I've never used one. As I take the bolts out of the hub, I soak the mating surface of the hub and steering knuckle with PB Blaster (pick a penetrating fluid you like, PB has been mine). Once all bolts and but are removed, it takes some force to get the hub OUT (it's basically "pressed" into the steering knuckle by use of tightening the 3 bolts that hold it). Using the chisel bit, carefully work it between the mating surface of the assembly and steering knuckle. Ever W-body (like the Monte) I have done, I manged to to do this WITHOUT damaging the bracket sandwiched between the two pieces that holds the ABS sensor wire.

I can do a W-Body hub in 1 hour flat 90% of the time these days (comes with having the right tools). When reseating the new hub, I recommend spreading Anti-Seize on the surfaces where the hub and the steering knuckle touch.

I hope that helps. Also looks like someone pointed you to a write up on the job.

a worn out wheel bearing is a pretty major safety hazard, if it gets too bad off your tire, wheel studs, hub and all could come off the car while you're driving down the road... if you have a good facility at your disposal and are mechanically inclined you will be able to change it... click on the link above, it should be very helpful... good luck!
