Help me find out what's wrong
Hi. So I have a 2003 Monte Carlo LS. Ever since I first got it, the heat and ac would only work on 5 (high setting). It would work very well but it just didn't work on any other setting. At some point it stopped working all together. It started making a noise that my dad said is a sign that the AC compressor is bad. after a week or so it would start working again. Then it would work sometimes and not work others. Then it would work for a month straight. Then on and off again. Pretty random and decides to work when it wants apparently. Since then we've changed the ac compressor and the climate control face. I haven't heard the noise that my father says is a broken ac compressor for a while and not at all after we replaced it. What else could it be?
My next best guess would be the blower motor. But is there something else that I should check first? Also, are there any common screw ups people make when replacing the compressor that we may have done that could result in the air still not working? Please, need any help I can get, the whether is getting warm and I don't want to be stuck without A/C
... yeah ik, first world problems...

Could just be as simple as a blown, blower motor resistor.
Pretty common on GM cars, and a simple and cheap fix. It was my first thought when you said it only worked on fan speed 5

Ok, thanks, I'll try replacing this and hopefully it fixes my problem. While your hear though, another question. When I stear usually when taking a 90 degree turn where the wheel is turned more than 1 rotation and I'm in motion, I'll hear a single clunk or pop. Would that mean my steering pump is out the door? It doesn't happen 100% of the time probably like 5-10% of the time
I would just try lubing the steering knuckle on the intermediate steering shaft (ISS).
If you google, you might find a quick how-to on it, but basically remove the kick panel under your dash on the driver's side, pull back the rubber boot, and you'll see a greenish plastic where the knuckle is. Just spray that down with white lithium, rotate the wheel, spray down some more, etc.
See if that fixes it for now. They are known for becoming a little dry.
