My 2007 does the same thing, in order to conserve battery power - the lights on the dash periodically dim and then go back to normal brightness. I think there's something in the Owner's Manual about it.

Make sure the dimmer switch is turned up enough. If the dimmer is turned down too far, the lights will be really dim when the headlights come on.

Lol wow. This just means you went in a car wash where it was dark inside, so it turned your headlights on. You have auto lights that happenes. When its dark outside, in order to see your odometer/speedo, it gets brighter when the lights turn on haha.

TOOK THE CAR OUT AT NIGHT TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON-NO DASH LIGHTS WORKING, THE ODOMETER LIGHTS AND RADIO LIGHT ARE REALLY DIM-THE "dimmer" SWITCH IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION-BUT NOW EVEN A BIGGER PROBLEM THE TAIL LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING. BRAKE LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS WORK. NO TAIL LIGHTS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. COULD THIS BE RELATED TO THE DASH NOT WORKING?? AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!

Does your Monte have any modifications ? Like new Deck, or any electrical additions from stock ? (like additional lights/amp's/speakers etc.

How many miles are on your Monte Carlo ?
