Question Heater Issues

Hey guys I got a rather annoying problem and maybe you will be able to help me out. I got a 97 LS and for the past month I have had issues with my heater. I wouldn't really say it's my heater, but the air coming from the vents. Right now my heater only blows air from the front defrost and to the floor. This isn't saying much considering there isn't much power behind it when it blows (on setting 3 of 4). When I switch the vents to the "head" position, nothing blows out of those vents, just still the floor and front defrost. This issue is a nuisance for me being that the weather where I am is reaching -10 below. When I am driving I constantly have it on 3 and it will take me up until the time I reach my destination (35 minutes later) that my car will be warm finally. I haven't looked much into it, but a friend said that it might be the linkage connecting to the vents may have come off in some way or is not responding like it should be. Any suggestions as to what it might be and how I could fix it?

Thanks,

Sean

Seems no one knows what a selector switch is. I called a local GM rep and he said it is probably the actuators that move the vent doors are burnt out. Does this seem right or would it be something else? I am looking at fixing it this weekend.

I was going to suggest the actuator. It's pretty common for them to go out unfortunately.

Also if your car is taking a long time to warm up, I would suspect the thermostat is stuck open

I just talked to the guys at a local O'reilly again. This time about finding prices and actual term for the 'actuators' holding the vent door in one spot. While there, a Hispanic mechanic getting parts said that it was the blower resistor connector. I was shown a picture of the part and it looked like there was a female connector on one side, and 4 small springs on the other side. That's about all I can describe of it, but he said it usually gets stuck on the righter most setting (defrost) connecting to the blower. I asked my friend afterwards, and him not knowing anything of monte's, but from experience he said that any kind of resistor connecting the blower would be the fan setting. So I guess I am not sure of who is right and what is still the culprit. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I know in Cavaliers the blower motor resistor used to go bad a lot from getting wayyy to hot.
