Default Has anyone really ever fixed a P0440 evap code

I have a 2002 SS. I have replaced the gas cap. Replace the purge solenoid, with no luck. I have checked for hose cracks, with no luck either. I guess I will try the vent valve next. Whats next. Thanks for any help. Dave

Tune the PCM and have the code deleted, thats a sure fire way to get rid of it

The vent valve is the number one cause for evap codes in gm vehicles. Check your filler neck too. They sometimes rust where the cap goes. The neck is 2 pieces, plastic and metal and the metal separates from the plastic.

I am going to order a vent valve. And check out the filler neck, and just try to dig deeper. I will let you know after the weekend. I hope I find something. Thanks for all the help. You guys are great. Dave

Well, no luck yet. I've tried two gas caps. I seem not to find the vent valve? I wish I could find a photo of the vent valve on the car. I tried to check the hoses, I cant find anything. Not sure what to do next. Thanks for all who helped.

I finally got the vent valve on order. Now where is it on the gas tank. Am I going to have to drop the tank or can it be done without dropping it. Has anyone ever changed one. Once I get it in my hands I should be able to find it on the tank, just by comparing parts. Thanks for any help. Dave
