Default Hard Starting when warm 2003 SS

I have a 2003 Monte SS 3.8L with 55K miles. Nearly every time I stop to refuel, the car won't start right up without giving me grief. It coughs and spits and general soundslike pre-ignition.Turning off the ignition stops it so it's not pre-ignition. It will do this 2 or3 times. I wait30 secs and then it'll start as if nothing is wrong. The car has a new air cleaner and fuel filter.I also make sure the gas cap is tight.

My car does the same thing. I asked my buddy, who is a GM tech, and he said it is the cam position sensor. He also said that you won't get a Check Engine Light coming on with this problem. Hopefully somebody else here knows if there is any truth to this. But, I do believe my buddy and will try replacing my cam position sensor and see if that works. Only thing is, it will be a couple weeks before I try it. So good luck!

mine did the same thing. turned out to be mass air flow sensor. easy was to test is disconnect the mass air sensor and start the car if it has no issues and you can not duplicate the issue, you just found your problem. if it continues to have issues with mass air flow disconnected, keep looking.

Found the problem with mine. It was the fuel pressure regulator it was actually leaking a little bit of fuel so I’m glad I found the problem and fixed it. I’d hate to lose my Monte at this point. Thanks for your reply thou, I get much better info here from other owners..
