Default getting the right engine

Alright guys as most of you know im in the process of swapping a 3.4 to a 3.8,my luck has been picking up on finding donor cars,i actually found a 2005 grandprix with an l36 about 10 mins away, the downfall is it has 192k miles, thats way too high, but she wants $600 for the complete drop out, I also found a 2002 totaled monte for $1000(I don't know any info on it yet)

I think I read somewhere that they changed some electronics on the 2004 and 2005 was different.is it true?

id like to stick with the easiest swap as far as electronics,im pretty much going for any engine available when I get the money either an l36 or l72,really wouldn't mind getting the l36 since people doesn't treat them as badly as a S/C engine

il probably have about $1000-$1200 to pick up a donor car within a month or so and im hoping to find a car with 100k miles at the most

In 2003 there was an electronic change to the transmission, that would prevent your stock PCM from talking to a new transmission, but you would most likely be grabbing the donor PCM as well since you have the 3400.

In 2005 the grand prix is actually running a series 3 engine. The series 3 has an electronic throttle body, and returnless fuel lines. I would stick to a series 2

is that the same for the 2005 monte's? il be grabbing everything I can under the hood,i was just wanting to make sure there wasn't any huge changes in the engines,im not that great with wires,i think $1000 should get me a pretty good motor and trans

im just trying to figure out what to do with all my old stuff, ive tried selling everything under my hood for $50 and nobody wants it,i guess il just take the block and tranny to the scrap yard and trash everything else

The Monte was a different treatment. They stayed Series 2 engines in 2004 and 2005.

Grand Prix switched to Series 3 in 2004

There's nothing really wrong with the plastic UIM. It keeps heat down, and they have been plenty durable for me. Some have swapped to the metal UIM from the series 3, but I haven't found the need to do that yet.

lol thanks man, just an fyi though the l67 (supercharged engine) is actually better as it has lower compression pistons to handle boost better and the injectors on a sc car go into the heads instead of the lim. all you have to do to turbo a sc car is pull the sc snout and install a block off plate and install the turbo kit

so the SC would actually be your UIM? that's neat

but if I go with a turbo I wouldn't want to stop there, since im already spending the money

did you have your engine built? or did you take it somewhere to get it bored over

you said yours is tuned on the street for 472whp id like to get somewhere between 400-420whp and that should make me happy
