Gas tank is acting like tank is full when it isn't.

that'll work too. so...I just got back from my gas run. It's raining like hell and I parked pretty far out in the parking lot at my job (not by choice) so that sucked but anyways, I tried the "pump the gas with the car on" trick and it worked. The pump still stopped every other gallon but that i a heck of a lot better than stopping every other penny like it was. I guess that rules out someone stuffing something in my gas tank but it also means that I might need the $1400 fix that mechanic was talking about. I'm assuming that with the car running, the gas tank is able to discharge vapors somehow so maybe it is the charcoal canister or some evap line.
