What year is your Monte? My '04 Intimidator SS, when it's cold, doesn't calibrate itself right on startup. I'm told that the GM trucks and Impalas have had enough guage problems that the warranty has been extended on them. This being the same car as the Impala (same plant, same line) should have the warranty extended, also. Just not as many MC's as Impalas, therefore, not as many complaints.
Contact your dealer, and they SHOULD replace your guage cluster free.

Hey Jeff, it might also be the fuel level sending unit on the fuel pump. I would see if you can get any warantee work done first otherwise it is going to get expensive. $300-$400 for the cluster and I'm not sure on the fuel pump sending unit.

I just had a similar problem on my 2000 Blazer and the fuel pump was $525. They didn't sell the level sending units seperatly, but the pump was going anyhow.
