Default G Force Chip

Has anyone installed a GForce chip in their Monte? Or have any recommendations? I have a stock 2000 MC SS

I take it that you're talking about this: http://www.gforcechips.com/chevroletmontecarlo.aspx

If so then it's a complete waste of money and you need to walk away from it. Our cars don't take "chips". You have to have the PCM reflashed.

That thing isnt even what you would consider a chip. Its just one of those junk resistors that plug into the intake temperature sensor and tells the computer to throw more fuel at it. Those things are unsafe and a complete waste of money.

Thanks! Thats what I wanted to know... I'm not really trying to make my car "hi-performance". Just looking to save some coin at the pump. I appreciate the input!

I have roughly 152K on it and will rebuild for performance. All in due time. I'll just have to change my driving habits to increase mileage. Boooooo

If all you want is increased gas mileaged...a "hot air intake" from eBay will help you a good bit. Have a read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warm_air_intake

Here's one for $20:

You'll lose some performance, but will probably gain 2-3 MPG.

Thanks! I'll give it a gander..... Depending on the loss of performance, I may just not worry about it. But thanks for the advice!

How about a fender well intake. Better mileage and a small gain in performance. They arent hard to make, just run some tubing the size of your MAF through the opening in the left side of the engine compartment and into the drivers fender. Then run a cone filter in there. It will get cool air and still stay dry.

Hmmmm... Interesting. Do you have any numbers on increases, or where I could find such info?

I run a fenderwall intake- I had to cut away part of my fender opening to get the filter 3/4 of the way into the fender- it still won't go all the way in due to a brace in the fender. Your 2000 SS probably has the same brace. It was a bit of a pain and I wouldn't really recommend it unless you're going for maximum performance, which you're not.

Cold air intakes (including the FWI) may give a slight increase in MPG, but they're mainly done to increase horsepower, albeit by only a small amount on a mostly stock car.
