Default G-Body steering column interchangeable????

Okay so long story short...i have a 85 monte..my buddy tried to start the car in neutral...when he turned the key something snapped inside the column...i have no idea what actually broke..you can turn the thing without a key in it now!

Anyways, my mechanic said that it is cheaper to just buy a new column from another gbody with the same options that my monte has. My Monte has a tilt wheel, column shift, no pulse, no cornering lights, no cruise....So will any GBODY column swap in to this car without modification?? Is the wiring the same?

I found a guy with a column from a regal for $50 and he is telling me it should swap right in. He says that he doesn't know what options it has besides its a tilt wheel and its a column shift..

any help or advice is appreciated

I had a 1985 chevy caprice that I installed a tilt column out of a 1982 olds cutlass.. it had the same part number on the side.. GM used a lot of same parts on there cars.. , I installed a tilt column on my wife's 1978 Camaro
it came stock non tilt.. got a tilt out of a 1975 firebird..worked fine..
