Fuel Filter - Quick Question
Hey, I am going to change my soon, and I got a question. I saw 2 different things saying to change it:
1 - Just let the car sit overnight without driving it so pressure dosent build up, so when you take it off, gas dosent shoot, and take off the cap for the gas tank
2 - I should go to the fuel pressure regulator with a fuel pressure gauge and releave the pressure so gas dosent shoot everywhere.
I will definetley do #1, but money is short and I cannot afford a fuel pressure gauge to release the pressure. My question is, will I be OK without releaving the pressure, and only going by #1? Thanks for the info.

good thinking mrrench, that would work great for that
are you sure you need to change your fuel filter? how many miles are on the car?? it could be just needing an injector cleaning

If you are going to clean the injectors why not do a fuel filter change,
The cost of a fuel filter is not that much, matter a fact most people dont even think about changing
fuel filters until they have a problem.

Both good calls... A fuel filter is a easy fix that most people dont think about.. for approx...$16.00 US you can by a replacement filter and improve power and economy ... when you pull the old filter out there is a intake and output side on the filter poor the remanding gas in the old filter on a piece of papertowl... this will show you all the crap that is in the filter and youll quickly see how important a good filter is for your favorite ride. now quickly touching on the injector cleaning, when you get the extra cash take it to a dealership and they will basiclly power clean your injectors.... Other then that Lucas Makes a real real good injector cleaner.. its a small bottle and is about 10 bucks but its good stuff.. that would be a twice a year thing i would suggest. you just add a full bottle to a full tank of gas... in addition a company called GUMOUT makes a fuel injector and carb cleaner... it too is a additive for the gas tank... add the full bottle to a full tank of gas when you do a oil change... this gumout product isnt the most expensive you can buy but its a great quality product at a great price.. i think the gumout is around 4 bucks and comes in a silver or sometimes white bottle that has a real long neck... both great products that i would STRONGLY suggest... either can be found at any local parts house or at meijer or walmart in a pintch but cost a little more there..

BTW: Thanks everyonefor the help on my lil' problem!
unless you have 2 quick connects i just unscrew the line slowly, and soon as i see or feel a little fuel, stop and let it spray a small stream until its down to a dribble.
otherwise mrrench's method is best, but letting the car sit overnight doesnt always work, and letting out fuel at the regulator seems to make about as much ofa mess as just letting the line off the filter as long as youre not under it.
