Smile Front Brake Rotor Turning Question

I replaced the rear rotors and pads on my 04 SS yesterday. Rotors were warped as I expected. The car has 56K on it.

This of course leaves the fronts. I am not getting any vibration while breaking now after replacing the warped rear rotors, so the fronts may not be warped.

I don't have a GM MC shop manual as yet. While searching for rotors I noticed the new and discard specs on the front rotors are a mere .06" apart. (1.27" new 1.21" reject)

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...ront+-+Hi-Perf

If these dimensions are consistent across all front rotors my conclusion is that NO rotors have enough material on them to be turned even one time, so replacements are necessary when replacing the pads.

Somehow this does not seem right...
Has this been your experience?

wow. that cant be right..... i have only done pads once on my monte andi had them cut at 70,000 miles. that cant be right fo rreject. i took my friends old car and i was told reject was at .9 it seems like there is a whole lot of life left at 1.21. IMHO

You can turn them for sure...

But IMO its not worth it. Around here anyway, turning cost like $17bucks per rotor, and you could buy brand new Napa rotors for like $31.00 per rotors...$15.00 over 40-70 thousand miles is nothing IMO, i'd just get new ones anyway.

every car and rotor has a different spec so ur friends old car is most likely different than the monte...i cant get on alldata at home but ill look 2moro for the spec. as for not being able to machine them u may actually be able to. when i machine rotors i start b takin of .3 millimeters per side. if the rotors r not badly warped and the first cut takes out the warp then the final cut is .15 mm. that puts it at .9 mm for a cut. .06 inches is 1.53 mm and therefor i can machine them. however braking generally takes more than .6 mm off the rotor so most likely they have to b thrown out. look for rotors at some other place than napa or go to a store and c then the guys have to say
