Default Fluctuating Oil Gauge '04 SS

Hi
I just changed my air filter to a K&N Air Filter. Now either I never noticed before or this is because of the new filter, but when I accelorate the oil temp gauge rises and then when I lay off the gas it goes back down? Is that normal?

Thanks

That is very normal. As your RPM's go up so does the RPM's of the oil pump.

Thanks for the reply, I was getting worried there. BTW, how can I test to see that the Air Filter really is improving my performance, as im told its supposed to?

The only real way to find that out is to have it dynoed before and after. Check with some of your go fast retail stores for Dyno shops in your area...

if nothing else put the old filter back in and run it around the block and see what happens but i wouldnt worry about it. as far as performance with the filter im not sure what you are suposed to get hp wise but i seen the hptv two weekend ago they were doing a new rustang and the cold kit added like 10 horse, i drop in filter probubly not as much. like tvw said, you could put it on the rollers but your lookin at a low hp gain.

I think he'd have to drive it further than that as the ecu would need time to make the necessary changes in the air/fuel mixture. The best thing to do would be to reset the ecu after replacing the filter, then driving it around.

I would think the changes would be pretty much instant I would think. The PCM should make instant adjustments.

the system needs to cycle, get readings and measurements and make the changes on the fly, unfortunately it's not instantaneous.

If you woke up in the morning and somebody had taken out your 3800 and put in a d15y2 from a 88-91 Honda Civic in your Monte, it'd take a while for you to get used to it, learn how long it'd take to pass, climb a hill, how much gas you need to give it when doing such. Same goes for the ECU when you do a mod that effects the airflow as much as a K and N does, cause you'd need to take it through the motions so it can see how much air it sucks in at WOT, at idle, at cruising speed, etc.

That is interesting. I wonder what that cycle time is? Maybe Chevy_jj knows and could offer some insight...

I don't know that there is a set time, I'd think you'd just need to take the car through it's paces, show it WOT, cruising, etc, so it can make the changes accordingly.
