A Few Problems - Creaking, Cooling fan, tape deck, turn signals, tail & dash lights, window switch
I have a 2001 Monte with a few problems. Sorry for the long post but any advise or similar problems and solutions would be appreciated. Here we go…
#1 The fan control switch does not work on #1 & #2 but works fine on #s 3, 4 & 5. Why? I checked fuses but could not find anything blown.
#2 There is now a cassette tape adapter stuck in the tape deck. I tried the basic poking and pulling on the wire of the tape adapter but it will not eject.
#3 The turn signals work intermittently. One minute they work fine and a few minutes later they do nothing in either direction. The only way to get them to start working, when they decide not to work, is to hit the 4 way flashers once and then the turn signals will function fine.
#4 The drivers side window switch also works intermittently. When trying to raise the window you have to use less than the typical pressure to put the window up. I’m pretty sure the switch is just worn out.
#5 A problem that I just fixed. The dash lights and the tail lights were not working. Apparently your dash lights stay off to tell you that your tail lights are out. This was because of a bad relay, “parking lamp relay”, in the passenger side fuse box.
#6 When I was searching for the fuse for the tail lights I noticed the fan control relays and fuses. I also noticed that the radiator fan was not running, even though the car was completely heated up. The temperature is typically at the halfway mark unless climbing hills. Does this sound right? Could the radiator fan or the inside fan have bad relays, I checked all related fuses and they are good.
#7 A major problem is a creaking noise in the front end. Every time you accelerate, slow down, or make turns there is a creaking noise coming from the front. It could be the suspension because it happens every time the weight in the front gets shifted. Anyone have similar issues?
Thanks

1. Fan, the resistor most likely is the problem
3. You need replace the turn signal flasher unit
6. If the engine fan is not coming on, this could be a couple of problems
The coolant sensor on the engine block for the computer not reading correctly
or the computer (power control module) is bad. My 03 had the same problem
had replace the pcm.
7. Check your drive shafts. CV boots could be cracked and the grease has leaked out
sometimes cleaning the joints and replacing the boots is all you need, others the shafts
need to replaced depending on how worn the are

#2 Pull the Player out of the Dash and dismantle it.
#4 X2 on the warn out switch... get a new one on ebay.
#5 NA - you fixed it.

#'s 1, 2 & 3 - I guess i have to pull the dash apart to get to the radio the fan resistor and the turn signal flasher. How do i pull this apart without damaging anything?
Does anyone have a repair manual in PDF format?
#6 - Where is the PCM and is there any way to check the PCM? Wouldnt the car over heat without the fan running?
#7 - CV boots are intact and no leakage. Should these be cleaned anyway? the car has just over 100k miles. What else could cause the creaking?
Could it be the intermediate steering shaft (ISS) that i've read about?
Also something else i'd like to mention about the creaking. I feel/hear it when i'm breaking and speeding up, even when i'm not turning.

The PCM is inside the air intake. You need to take the air intake apart with 2 clips and pull off the top part of the box. PCM is the big aluminum chunk of metal at the bottom.
It shouldn't overheat unless you are in traffic. Over heating occurs I beleive at 240* and our cars usually top out at about 200* if idle with no fan.
