Default Engine Squeals

Just fixed a intake manifold leak had water in the engine. I changed the oil and filter twice, drove iy about two miles and it developed a squeal. I thought it was the water pump (was hoping too). Took the belt off and the engine still squeals. Should I try to use a preoiler to clean the oil passages, add add additive to the oil or just plan on rebuilding the lower end?

3800??? If so, you're probably missing an o-ring on the PCV valve.

Symptom is commonly described as sounding like it's originating where the alternator goes, sounds like belt squeal, but when you remove the belt (thus removing the pulley movement) you still here it in that region, PCV valve missing an O-Ring.

Not sure where is is coming from have not located it on top the engine using a stethiscope. Took the belt off to eliminate enternat items. (ie p/s, a/c). Did check oring is present and new. Thanks

What year and engine do you have?? Is it a 3800 or 3400? That will make a little difference in trying to help.

As you said, removing the belt takes the pullies out of the equation. But you are unable to get a general location of the noise (like left or right, front or back, top or bottom of the motor)?

2001 Monte Carlo 3.8.. I was the one that that replaced the intake gasket 3 times (for a vacuum leak), before finding the bolt missing in the head. I'll get back out later today to see if I can isolate it. Thanks

Ahh, sorry, I recall you missing bolt situation (so many people and user names to keep track of lol).

Right now I'm drawing a blank and can only think of the PCV o-ring issue. I've never messed with it personally, but the MAP sensor sits above it. I tried checking the shop book but it did not give me info about the o-ring. Again, that's the only thing I think could cause that....

I'd be interested at what the answer is....
