6th Gen ('00-'05): Engine squeak and lack of power on acceleration
Hey guys recently new to this but needing some help. I have a 02 ss and recently the engine has been squeaking and lacking power when accelerating. The lack of power its not bad but noticeable. And as for the squeak goes its just more annoying then ever and its not the belt or any of the pulleys. It seems to be coming from the top or the back of the motor. If anyone has some suggestions other then belt or pulleys i would appreciate the help in hopefully fixing this issue
Are you sure it's not the belt or pulley? What have you done diagnostic wise.
Do you live in an area that's experiencing this extreme cold?
If it's the back of the motor, on the belt side, it could be the PS pump / pulley.

Check your Belt Tensioner. Just by looking at it and noticing it Wobbling; that's a
indicator that the tensioner is not functioning right. Common problem from what I've
heard with 6th Gen Monte's. Also, ChibiBlack Sheep very likely is correct, but always good
to perform overall checkup's.Consider checking the water pump as well for any leaks.
Also, make sure your gasoline wasn't mixed with water, just thinking about another possibility because you mentioned poor acceleration.

How have you confirmed the squeal is not any of the pulleys? The easiest method I have is remove the belt, spin each pulley by hand. First slow, do a full revolution and feel if the travel at any point feels "rough" or anything unusual. If so, most likely your issue. Then spin the pulley as fast as you can by hand. If you noticed something doing it slow, then that should result in a noise spinning by hand and a bigger noise when the belt drive is spinning it.
If it is not any of the pulleys, I have not heard this myself, but I've read from others who have experienced it. On the 3800 in the Monte SS, if the O-rings are not properly installed on the PCV, that can also result in what sounds like a belt squeal.
Now the lack of power.... Because of the age of these cars, I admit to wanting to know some maintenance items. First, how many miles are on the current spark plugs and spark plug wires? And what brand spark plugs where used (if you say Bosch plugs, due to my past history with multiple issues with Bosch plugs, I will recommend you remove them and go AC Delco or NGK).
Next, have you inspected the air filter? Is it clean, if not, may be time to replace.
Does the car have a check engine light on? And the lack of power accelerating, is it all the time or at certain speeds?
