Engine problems? please help

Default Engine problems? please help

I have a 96 monte carlo. Its a 3.1 and my brother said he had problems on the highway and it broke down. Well i finally got it started after i dried the plugs and the oil light is on now and i took the oil fill cap off and looked inside and the valves arnt even moving. Any ideas? Oil pump? thanks

the rockers are not moving or are not squirting oil?

I NOTICED THE VALVES NOT MOVING THE SPRINGS ARE SITTING STILL. OIL LIGHT IS ON. IM NOT TOO FAMILAR WITH THESE ENGINES. THE ENGINE RUNS BUT ITS BAD IT SHAKES LIKE CRAZY.

It isn't possible for the motor to run without the valves opening.

well if it is running and the valves that you can see are not moving it is possible that the oil pump is out and the lifters colapsed on those valves from lack of oil pressure. To further diagnose it I would get a manual oil pressure gauge on it and test the actual pressure. I know this might be a dumb question but was the oil level checked?

Its running but i dont think on all cylinders. Yes the oil level is good. I was going to hook a manual guage up where would i tap in? also what psi should it be at?

There is usually a plug on the oil filter housing to hook a manual gauge to. Either that or pull out the oil pressure sensor and hook it up there. The factory spec for it is 15psi @ 1100 RPM. Hope it helps ya some
