Engine problems? please help
I have a 96 monte carlo. Its a 3.1 and my brother said he had problems on the highway and it broke down. Well i finally got it started after i dried the plugs and the oil light is on now and i took the oil fill cap off and looked inside and the valves arnt even moving. Any ideas? Oil pump? thanks
well if it is running and the valves that you can see are not moving it is possible that the oil pump is out and the lifters colapsed on those valves from lack of oil pressure. To further diagnose it I would get a manual oil pressure gauge on it and test the actual pressure. I know this might be a dumb question but was the oil level checked?
There is usually a plug on the oil filter housing to hook a manual gauge to. Either that or pull out the oil pressure sensor and hook it up there. The factory spec for it is 15psi @ 1100 RPM. Hope it helps ya some
