Default engine noise, overheat, shutting off

Hey guys- first thread and I wish it was under better circumstances.

out of nowhere my engine started over heating, so i replaced the thermostat and topped the coolant off. It seemed fine for a few hours and then out of nowhere the engine stalled and started to smoke a good bit. It was really hesitant to start back up but when it did i had close to no power and the engine was making a loud clocking sound. I lost power steering and brakes even after it shut off. My temperature gauge didnt say it was over heating before it happened. If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it. Hopefully it isn't too expensive

Forgot I skipped that. It's a 2003 ss (3.8) with around 100k on it

Power steering failing makes me wonder if a belt snapped (might also explain the "clicking" noise, could be part of a belt flapping a little).
Power brakes make me wonder if a vacuum leak exists.
Lack of performance can be any list of possibilities right now. Step #1, figure out what actually happened and then what harm it did.
Also the hard start can be a list of anything too. Such as, if you were overheating, metals could have expanded to a point the pistons aren't moving very well.

If the smoke you saw was really anti-freeze steam and my guess on the clicking is correct, it might not be terminal.

If you never popped the hood to check if anything was damaged during this incident prior to this posting, I'll be honest, you should probably consider having a reputable mechanic look this one over. Prolonged driving on a car that might be overheating can be damaging.
