Default Engine Harness Problems

I was recently driving my brand new 87 SS on the 4th of July when I noticed that my temp gauge was overheating. I popped the hood at the light and had a fire on the left side by what would normally be my A/C unit and the motor. When I bought the car, it did not come with the original 305, but now has a 350 with headers and what I think happened was that some of the wires were not secured on that side and caught fire from contact with one another. I just got the car and know nothing about the engine harness, where it all connects, where to get it, or where to even get started. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. See below for before and after photos.

That's a lot of work. Your A/C Box has to be replaced, engine harness if they still used the same setup as on my second gen. Firebird, than it's easy to replace. Check your firewall for a
square looking connector, where a lot of wires come out of, in there in the middle is a screw, you unbolt that and you can pull out the square piece toward the engine compartment, then you trace all wires to bulbs and all other connectors in the engine compartment, pull them off/disconnect and replace the entire engine wiring harness.

thanks for the info. Where is the best place to get a new one/ or in good condition. I already tried summit, painless, opg, chevy dealerships,, etc. Do you think I'll have to use a universal. Or can I use the one from a gen 2 trans am. I can't find a part #
