Default Engine gone?

I have a 95 monte carlo with a 3.4 dohc, which I think has had it. I was driving on the highway, and had a great loss in power. The car stalled, and when I went to start it it was like the engine was seized. I let it cool down, now it starts, but with a great deal of friction and smoke coming out of the tailpipe. I first thought of a thrown rod, but I dont think it would start at all with a thrown rod. The car heats up and shuts down like its seized again as it warms.

Does anyone have any idea's? Now I'm thinking something to do with the valvetrain.

The oil was actually changed a week prior to this. I also changed the plugs and air filter. The car did not burn any oil.

Check the oil level to make SURE there is oil in it. Sounds to me like you spun a bearing.

I'm positive it is full of oil. Are you talking about a rod bearing or main bearing? Or could it be either one?

Pull the timing belt inspection cover and see if the timing belt is in tact. If it is frayed or broken that might be your problem. The inspection cover is the black "cap" beside the front valve cover. It comes off with two 8mm bolts.

if you threw a rod it would sound like a helicopter or you'd have a hole in the block
