Default Engine Cleaner / Transmission Cleaner YAY OR NAY?

I am actually going to take my car to the mechanic this weekend (my car, not the wife's car I have been posting about - the monte carlo with the engine fire).

I guess I should say: 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis 8 cylinder 160,000 miles; no problems, no misses, no slips, no sluggishness, no major problems. Actually rides pretty nice!

Going for an oil change and a transmission filter/fluid change.

The question: Do you recommend adding anything to the engine or the transmission before changing the fluids??? Meaning, anything I could pick up at Pep Boys or Auto Zone that would actually do good, versus harm???

Sorry if I am breaking protocol by asking about another car other than a Monte Carlo........but I do appreciate everyone's knowledge on this site and everyone has been very helpful to me. Thank you!

Many thanks!

Do not add chemicals before you get your tranny flushed...they r gonna take the fluid out neways and its not goin to do you any good. you could run some carbon cleaner thru the tank if u think u ahve carbon build up

seafoam works great and you have to change the oil just after the treatment. so you should use this before the oil change. most auto parts stores have it for 5 or 6 bucks
