Hey guys I live in Il and just took my 86 Monte Carlo LS w/the 305 V8 motor and it failed emissions pretty bad the #'s were really high, Someone said to just replace the cat and do a carb adjustment and it should be ok??? Im not sure and I figure someone can help me out here I hope! I would say those are two very good areas to start.

 

the motor is completley stock and a tune-up like oil change, air filter, pcv valve, breather element were all changed out 2500 miles ago and the plugs, wires, cap-rotor were done when i bought the car so Im assuming between 10-20,000 miles ago! if there is any other suggestions you guys may have for me aside from the cat and carb adjustment that would be great! Do you think it's mostly that?? like I said the readings were very very high, what else could it be being a carb motor???

 

i think that it si somewhere betqween those two areas you know. being a carb motor the options are realy limied as to what they can be

 

try a fuel additive like lucas or outlaw octane booster. also if you disconnect the brake booster vacuum line and spray carb cleaner (1 cwhole can) in the line while the car is running it will clean out exhaust system of old carbon. after doing this you must drive car for 1 hour at 65 to blow remaining deposits out . aviod stop go driving . find a highway. this will greatly lower emmissions
