Default electrical problem?

Hey new to the site, and like it so far.

01 MC SS

When driving the car it almost seems like a bad missfire. I have replaced the plugs and wires, and all three coils. It's not throwing any codes, and does it randomly. Then today while driving it it just shut off! It did start back up with no problems though. Can somebody point me in the right direction here? I was thinking maybe something to do with the vats system, but not sure.

Thanks, Mike

Well... I changed out the ignition control module, and it didn't make a difference. Does anybody have any ideas?

Any other problems? Lights / windows not working. Radio acting funny.

What's it doing, I know you said it's LIKE a misfire... but what's going on? Need a little more information.

Mine does the same thing. 01 SS, as well. Mine shut off just this morning while I was driving. It's happened 3 or 4 times to me in the 3 months I've had the car, once while accelerating on the highway. When mine shuts off, everything electrical still works, radio is playing, lights are on, while I coast down the road. I'm far from mechanical and far from having the cash to dump on a mechanic, so it's on hold for now.

Well I'm not sure on how else to explain it. Everything else still works. It's kind of like a loss of power as your driving for a split second. It even did it sitting in park one time. The RPM's just drop off for a split second as if you were to turn the car off. It's more extreme when in WOT, but still very noticeable when cruising.

I guess it feels like something is shorting out, but I don't know where to start. I've checked groung connections and other connections.

you know bud not always do sensors and other crap throw codes.

you can pull a book out and watch the signal but better yet i would watch the signal going into the ignition. this will not throw a code on Monte's that have bounced off their revlimiters. A computer see's a limited rev as a misfire, once this happens any more occurrences may be ignored.

So my suggestion is watch the voltage meter, and if you want to check the ignition (gunna need a low tech way to do this, I use a fluke but it probably more then most have available, it has graphs)

it also may be a issue with fuel, the computer controls fuel distribution though, this could also be effected by the mag pickup

I just had to laugh. Hopefully this thread isn't too old to resurrect.

I just had my car into the shop for the first time since I've owned it. Money has been tight, so I've just been wingin' it. I told my mechanic what it was doing, he drove it, said there was an old (?) code for a crank position sensor in the computer that was never cleared. So he replaced that, on a 75% guess that it was the fix, he said. That was almost 2 weeks ago. It hasn't died once. It was dying nearly every day before this was replaced. If I would have done this when I read that post in July, I'd be much happier with my MC... lol

Anyway, good call Budsjlm! If anything, it was nice to see a second "guess" to his 75% guess...lol
