Default Dropping cylinders or something

Hi and Hello I recently inherited a 2000 M.C. SS 3800 from my baby brother when he passed away last June. Drove her down here from V.A. to SWFLA no problems. Has not given me a moments problem till last week. In slow traffic it started kicking like dropping a cylinders from a MSD rev limiter i would best explain it as. Any way when traffic cleared a nailed up the bridge problem gone. Changed fuel filter when I got home fuel slightly brownish. Several days later after no problems I left the yard and it started again, nailed it to no avail just bucking, barely made it to Mr. Front End by then I could barely keep it running. Stalling hard to restart no engine codes at all. They kept for a few days said there were 5 tranny codes. They gave me the codes which I passed to my best Buddy who has owned his own tranny shop foe 15 years. He told me to take it away from them and take it to his friends shop. They have had it for 5 days cant find a thing wrong.?? Any body ever heard of this ? fuel pressure fine shifts fine runs out fine no codes at all even when puter hooked up driving it. Any and all help appreciated.

Welcome to the forum,
Sorry to hear of the passing of your brother...

It sounds like it could possibly be a faulty TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)
Or a dirty MAF (Mass air flow sensor) Get some MAF cleaner.. You could also have a vacuum leak...
I would also try changing out the gas filter again as well as maybe try pouring some injector cleaner in the tank and see if that helps. You could just have some clogged injectors since you mentioned the fuel looked "Brownish"...

I'm sure someone else will chime in with more ideas.
Thanks for joining the MCF Family.

I also just read your visitor message to me...

Heres also what I think is going on....

Since you mentioned that gas gauge doesn't work... and you ran it out of fuel... It could also possibly be that there was residual sediment in the tank and the pump picked it up thus clogging up the fuel system...

I would absolutely change that fuel filter again to see if the color of the fuel has cleared up.. Then I would definitely check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail... To see if you possibly also have a failing fuel pump which would also cause some of the issues you have explained..

Its still at my friends garage fuel pressure normal no codes running great he has driven it home and back with no issues. would the tps show a code ? will tell him to try cleaning the maf. No vacum leaks found. My brother had the intake gaskets replaced in Jan 2013 he told me there were issues with the factory gaskets and his were dripping oil or water cant remember, said the garage he used used up dated gaskets. my drive way is clean so no leaks.

No the only way I know of without a meter to test continuity etc....
Is to unplug it... start and drive the car.... if you have the same issue or it doesn't start.... Then its not the MAF... It should startup and drive... But, Its not recommended after the test to drive with it unplugged..Its only meant as a test...

Fuel pump died today while test driving with mechanic and his computer in my lamp. Decided to replace fuel pressure regulator at same time, going to flush out tank while its down, new filter and do a fuel injector cleaning. Using AC Delco parts only, will post results when its done. Thanks every body !
