Hello Forum,
This is my first post.Great spot for Monte Carlo Information.
With this help I have just changed my lower intake gasket with no problems.
Now that I am done I need help in cleaning out the over flow tank.
It has some Dex-Cool sludge in it and I am sure some oil residue from the intake problem.
How can I get this thing cleaned up?

 

I too would be interested in people's advice. I am in the same boat and have tried washing it out with Castrol Superclean but nothing will get the residue out. Advice?

 

put some dawn in with hot water, the whole container comes out. and welcomne to the forum!

 

I have used Dawn and tried bleaching it out.It got some but not much.

 

Same. I tried soaking it in diluted Superclean and it barely put a dent. There has to be something else that will work. Solvent?

 

I took the bottle out of the car. Then I let it soak with some dawn and hot water. I then got the garden hose out with a high pressure fitting and hosed it out. The high pressure water helped break up the dex-cool crap. It looked like I had lumps of clay in mine until I "pressure washed" it out. Granded it did take afew minutes but in the end it all was broke up and came out the overflow hose. The hose fitting just screwed onto the garden hose and is necked down to make a jet stream with a on/off lever. I think I picked it up at Walmart for afew dollars and has came in handy for jobs like this. Anyways I hope this helps.

 

I would suggest using the cleaner of your choice but add some rice to it and shake the hell out of it once you get it in there and the lid put back on. The rice will act as a scrubbing mechanism of sorts to help get the sludge out of there.

I don't guarantee it'll work but it's sure worth a shot wouldn't ya say?

 

I've heard that oxi clean does a pretty good job, im having the same problem.

 

For the interior of the bottle I use a strong concentrate of sodium phosphate. Using rice as an agitator is a good idea, but I've found that gravel does a better job breaking the sludge loose from the bottom of the bottle. I also use sodium phosphate to clean the outside, followed by a wipe down of bleach white then a rinse in water.

 

i got a new one from the dealer, if i remember it was 19 bucks
