Parking mode

If someone damages your car in your absence, a dash cam with parking mode will come to life and start recording, so you can see who hit your car.
^ Mod `Jason, maybe a good investment for you & your Monte Carlo.

I would love to have a dash cam, I see some crazy things on the road and it would be great to be able to record them. Plus it'll really help if you ever get into an accident that wasn't your fault.

i would like to have a cam on each side of turbo monte more than a dash cam though..... and the side cam needs to recognize the other car and follow him (swivel cam) so when you are racing someone you dont miss a second of the race

Hi `Keane, thanks for your post/words...

I'm thinking about getting one for some of the same reasons you stated, plus I'd like to have one when I park my car at the mall or other lots 4>Sure

p.s. > LOL 'John, you need a camera crew to try to follow you around (but they would need a super performance ride to try to keep up with you to record the events (LOL)

I like the below one for $60 (It's one that's on the above review link)
DVR-027

Technical Details

- Max. resolution: 1280×720 @ 30fps
- Built-in 2″ screen
- 1/4“ CMOS WXGA HD Sensor
- Viewing Angle: 120° diagonal
- Operating temperature: from 0°C to +40°C / 32˚F to 104˚F
- Storage temperature: from -20°C to +50°C / -4˚F to 122˚F
- Date & time stamp on video
- Supports up to 32GB MicroSD cards
- Loop recording
- Auto on/off
- Interfaces: HDMI, USB 2.0 (mini-USB)

Review

This highly successful dashboard camera is arguably the best affordable dash cam currently available on the market. Beware of cheap fakes however, make sure you get the original DVR-027: it costs around $60 currently (as of 2013). You can distinguish a fake for the real thing by looking for the HDMI port on the right-hand side, which fakes don’t have. Also check the menu color: The original DVR-027′s menu is black on a white background.
The DVR-027 has been out for several years now and has proven to be a very reliable car camera in the lower price segment. It has all the standard dash cam features like loop recording, date and time stamp, and auto on/off when you turn your car’s ignition key. Video quality is good during day-time, and okay at night.
At around $60, the DVR-027 of course doesn’t have as many features as a high-end camera, but it’s a great buy if you don’t want to spend a lot of money or if you’re on a budget and looking for a dash cam that just does the job.

I just recently d/l a free app for my (windows) phone that records video in addition to distance, mph, etc. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet but from browsing the features it sounds like it should be fun. I'd think similar apps should be available for other markets as well.

Edit: 'I already have one' should be an option in the poll.

I would honestly want one just to record all the cool cars I see when I go out cruising. Being at a school that has a large population of extremely rich foreigners (chinese), you see some pretty cool cars, even though I think it's unfair that a college kid can have his parents buy him such a monster. Some of the ones I see regularly are:

Yellow Ferrari 458 Italia
Red Ferrari F430
Green Lamborghini Murcielago
Countless numbers of GT-R's
Gray Audi R8 V10
Black Porsche 911 GT3
hundreds of BMW M3's
Etc, Etc

I ordered a mini dash cam earlier this week. If it works well I might spring for a bigger one with LCD display in the future but for my needs right now it doesnt need LCD display for live review and the videos shown by reviewers were more than adequate.
