Default Coolant smell and very small leak.....

2001 Monte Carlo SS

So a few months ago my water pump was leaking. Replaced the water pump, coolant elbows and coolant level sensor (oh I also have a new radiator that is only about a year old) . I can tell its not leaking around the water pump as its bone dry, but I have a coolant "smell" now and again and a very small amount of coolant loss? Any ideas on where to focus my attention to see where its leaking? Besides the water pump and coolant elbows and radiator what are other common areas that would also allow you to smell the coolant? Thanks guys.

I don't have a good answer except to look at the almost invisible coolant elbow again. Good luck!

I agree with GTHS. If you replaced the elbows with the aluminum ones by Dorman, the o-rings are a bit small and could be leaking from there.

If you have the 3.8 check around the upper manifold and throttle body, coolant do pass through those things

Agree on the elbows, other than that look around the intake manifold for signs of coolant

Thanks guys.....YES it was the Dorman metal elbows. I will check there again and around the upper manifold and throttle body. I know when I first bought this it was leaking around the throttle body as someone had lost one of the bolts....so I bought another bolt and tightened all 3 (or 4 can't remember) down.

Default Same problem

I replaced my coolant elbows and water pump as well but i havent replaced the radiator. Do you guys know if I need to get under the car for that befause I dont have a jack. And i see coolant is coming out of a bracket above the radiator right by the hose and spraying on the hose. Every two days I keep filling it back up with coolant. Before I replace the radiator I just wanted to know if that will be the end of my problems. If I put a new radiator in will the piece still cause me to lose coolant? If someone sends me there email I can show you a picture of what I'm talking about

Check the heater hoses and Heater core (if Heater core is leaking it would leak on the passenger side floor inside the car I believe) also as already stated check the lim for signs of leaks. Double check the elbows but I used the elbows with the supplied o rings and mine do not leak.check both rad hoses for a pin hole possibly?
