2003 Monte Pace car.

Last night while driving home from a cruise-in all the lights shut off. The dash light flashed "SECURITY" and "BATTERY."

The stereo flashed "LOCKED."

The car continued to run. But we were only a few miles from home. Once home the car would not re-start.

I thought it to be a shorted battery. So after fighting to get the battery out of my '86 Monte in the Pace car, the car now acts like it's shorted some place. Like the battery clamps.

Is there some place on the net I could research what this means to diagnose the car's problem?

See, the locked on the radio is theft lock activating. DOn't quote me as I lack enough knowledge on this, but it could be a failing or failed BCM. If you can get it to a dealer and have a guy strap a GM Tech II to it, that may open more information.

I would do a security relearn (key ON for 11 min/OFF for 30 sec/X3) and see if that resolves the problem.

This is part of the security system. It should unlock once the security relearn is done. If it doesn't then you may have a faulty ignition switch or possibly bad BCM wiring or BCM.

Man I hope it's not something like the BCM. I'll bet they aren't cheap.

I checked in to new battery cables today. GMpartsdirect wants $45/each. Since I want to stay with stock looking parts I guess this isn't too bad.
