Default Climate controls

About a year ago the number 1 and 2 settings on my fan control stopped working.....last night I lost numbers 3 and 4 and can only use the heat on number 5. Someone at work tells me there is a cicuit board of some type in the car that controls the fan speed and that it is'nt the switch nor the fan motor that has gone bad. Does anyone know if this is true and if so where do I locate this gizmo on my 01 Monte SS ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
