Default Clicking sound when pressing on the breaks

My 06 monte is about 2 months old now, and when the car is in park and I press on the breaks I hear a single click noise comming from the shifter area at the same time I press the break pedal. Only happens when in park, doesnt seem to effect the functionality of the breaks. Any ideas?

Yes, what that is, is the safety feature so you can't shift out of park unless you have the brake depressed. If you try to push the button on the side of your shift lever without braking, it simply won't let you, when you hit the brakes it is dis-engaging that locking mechanism so you can shift. Now... as to why it's audible... you got me, maybe it's along the same line as why I can hear a click under the passenger side dash when I hit my cruise control. But it's nothing to fear.

I would imagine that modern cars drive "on the wire." Meaning that electronic controls have replaced mechanical controls. You are probably just hearing a relay that is sending off a message. I am sure that more expensive cars use quieter relays, but since you are dealing with GM, you kind of get what you get. You may want to ask the dealer to replace that relay because the sound is annoying and try to have him find a quieter one. Just a guess though.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am taking the car in to the body shop on monday for the bumper replacement(I hit a coyote) and then I'll take it in to the dealer once I get it back.
