Default Tinny Clicking Sound When I turn Right

OK, Here goes...
1999 Monte Carlo Z34 about 92K Miles.

It Makes a Metallic Clicking Noise only on a right turn while car is in motion.

I have had my mechanic working on it for 2 weeks. He has enlisted help from various different mechanics, automatic transmission specialists and no one has encountered this noise or has an answer. He has checked just about everything.

Here's the expansive list of what he has ruled out.

Rack N Pinion
CV Joints
Tie Rods
Axles
Steering Column
Loose Calipers
Bushings and bearings in housing where axle meets tranny.

He checked other things too but I can't remember. Transmission is clean and all shifting is smooth. He still suspects it's something further in the tranny where Axle meets, but is hesitant to go for a tranny rebuild if he can help it.

It would be helpful if anyone else has any ideas, because we are totally stumped.

I'm having a similar issue, I just haven's had the time to get it checked yet. I will check my car out this weekend and if find anything different than what you already checked I will let you know.

Could it be in your left front wheel hub assembly?

I believe he may have checked both. I will ask him. Could that make the noise on a right turn?

I bought this car on craigslist and my mechanic went with me. When we test drove it he said it was most likely the CV Joint. We drove it straight from the seller to his shop so I didn't drive it much before he began working. It needed quite a few things done.

I have since gotten it back and drove it some. So here are some updates about the noise. I REALLY don't think it's the transmission.

The noise doesn't happen only on acceleration and it doesn't happen all the time. If I coast or brake into a right turn, there's no noise.

If I accelerate into the turn the noise gets faster, it seems as the tire or axle rotation gets faster.

I meant to say that it sometimes makes the noise when I coast into a right turn, but if I go gently enough I can avoid the noise. Also, I just notice that the right front corner panel is not aligned correctly. It appears to be about 1/2 inch off.

Hi! Wondering what you came up with. Did you figure this out? I noticed that the front right corner panel on mine doesn't line up correctly, so I'm wondering if it was in an accident that the seller didn't tell me about. I have an appointment with another shop tomorrow. Will update when I can.

My noise actually turned out to be a wheel bearing on my passenger side, it looks like the cv axle went 1st and then the wheel bearing. So I changed both. I still have other issues with the car. I'm gonna put those in a different post, because this one is about your problem. That took car of my problem, but I don't know if that is what your problem. Are there any other issues with the car besides the sound? Since I've purchased my car, the Day Time Running lights have went out, the car shifts a little rough, I hear a strange nose on the driver side when I turn, it doesn't sound like a cv axle(click, click, click, click, click), sometimes the car wont start, but not because of the battery, it's as if it is out of gear or something, to get it to start I would have to get out and make sure the car is level in park, then it will start, when I put the car in park it rocks back and forth. I also brought my car from craiglist, I had been wanting one for awhile now and the price that I got it for I couldn't pass it up, but the car does have some issues. These are good cars, but as with all used cars you have to put some work into them. Keep us posted on what happen with your car.

So Glad you found it. I actually brought mine to a transmission shop that has experience with MCs as my mechanic was suspecting that's where it was. Come to find out they think it's the starter. He took it out and showed me. The piece inside the cylinder (not sure what it's all called) was free floating and moving around. I still don't see how that makes the noise on a right turn, but he assured me that's what it was. He was $235 to fix with a lifetime warranty. Hubby's going to take a look and see if he can do it to save us some money in case that really isn't the problem. I'll keep this thread updated.

BTW love this car.

Thanks for the update. The starter sounds unlikely. After driving my car for an extended period of time today, I have come to the conclusion that its probably my cv axle, just starting to show wear and that is why it hasn't got to the the point of click, click, click, click, click. I change out my passenger side cv axle, but didn't have the money to do the driver side. I will change it out when I get paid again. Did you get a chance to see if they checked your hub assembly as ChibiBlackSheep asked earlier.

Update:I'm still not sure what the clicking sound is but it happens when I turn the wheel right or left, it there something in the steering that I need to do?
