Default Clearing the Message Centre!

Hi, I'm new to this or any forum, I have searched for this topic before I asked and have not found what I was looking for..My problem is very minor. I bought a 2000 Monte Carlo SS which I have been very pleased with. My issue at the moment is that the message centre on the dash is showing "change Engine Oil" I can only assume this is a suggestion as I changed the oil 2 weeks prior to the light coming on..My question is will the light continue to come on untill I clear the computer somehow, and if I need to reset it to stop the light from coming on how do I go about doing so...Please keep in mind I do not have an owners manuel because it would most likely explain how to do so...If you can help your input is welcomed. Thanks

you could take it to an auto parts store ( like advanced auto), alot of parts stores offer free scans for codes. you have them plug the scanner into your computer and ask if they can clear the change oile code. they hit a button, the light goes off, & you go on your marry way if it comes back on, you may want to check your oil & see if its low.

how many miles does your monte have, and what engine? 3.8?

shut off your radio, hold the disp button down for 10 secs.

navigate through settings with seek buttons.

use 2 (next) on oil life, go to reset, hit disp again. go to exit with your seek buttons and then you are good to go.

If you change your own oil, be sure and reset it with said instructions above. If you don't change your own oil, make sure the place that does reset the oil life sensor.

Have you tried ebay to find a used owners manual? 2000-2005 should have similar instructions for basic stuff like resetting the oil life sensor and such.

I don't recall where, but I did find a PDF version once online for free.

But I have the real thing so I didn't save it.

The quick and easy way to reset that is to

Turn the ignition to ON w/the engine off
Press the gas pedal down 3 times within 5 seconds
Turn the ignition off, wait a second or two then start the car

Message will be gone!

I prefer the lazy radio method over the labor intensive gas pedal pushing
