Default Check engine light at 455mi.?

Whats up people, Im a newbie ,my name is Monte and I just bought my Monte Friday. On Sunday the Engine light came on and stays on constantly. I didnt leave the car running when I filled up, and the gas cap was tight. I bought the car with 66mi. on it. I drove it all weekend and now have 455mi. on it. What else would cause the engine light to come on so soon?

Thanks Monte

Just recently I had to take my 06 MC SS to the dealership for "Check Battery Charging System" message and battery icon staying on. That was with just over 5,000 miles on it. They fixed that by resetting or recalibrating the BCM per a tech bulletin. That same day, I started it up in the afternoon and got a "Check Air Bag" message and the air bag icon was lit up. Took it back to the dealer and they showed 7 codes for passenger air bag. I think what you might have is another one of those glitches that they already know about and a tech bulletin is out on it. Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it.

does your engine seem to run a higher temp than it should or not move at all? if so it could just be a bad thermostat. i replaced mine and then 200 miles later the check engine light came on and it was a bad thermostat the one i had just replaced.
