Changing Spark Plugs

Default Changing Spark Plugs

One of my close friends has asked me to change plugs in her 03 V6 SS Monte Carlo. I've looked for a way to access the back 3. What's the trick? from underneath? I do most of my own work on my corvette and I thought things were tight until I looked at her car. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at the upper motor mounts that look like a wish bone
You need to unbolt the mounts on the engine side,
Once the two mounts are unbolted, you will see another hole in the mount,
You need two people here, push the car backwards (leave it in park)
Align the second hole in the wishbone mount to the hole on the engine mount
The will allow the engine to tilt towards the front so you can get to the plugs from the top

This does not hurt anything. Its the way it was made.

So, does someone have to keep pushing back on the car while the other person switches out the plugs? Or, does the engine prop itself up once you push the car back?

When i did mine i took off the motor mounts, put the car in neutral and set the parking brake.Then i laced a ratchet stap through either a lift point or the alternator support and secured it to the core support and rotated the engine forward by using the ratchet. The back three are going to be almost all done by feeling them and the drivers side has a sensor in the exhast manifold that makes it real tight to get out.

Once you have pushed the car back and the engine titles up enough to stick the bolt though the other hole it will stay there until you remove the bolt

yah this way works well, i haven't had to do mine yet, but i've seen them done like this, makes it look very easy to do the back 3

That is why the holes are in the mount
it was made that way

Cool...I'll have to give it a try! I have a set of high performance iridium plugs that I haven't installed yet.

or you could just unbolt the engine cover mount from the back (black piece of metal two bolts at the bottom) and it gives you alot more room to work with rather than rotating the engine. it took me about 30-45 mins doing it this way replacing all the wires and spark plugs.

Ok...I'm still a little confused, though. Is there any way someone could post some pics of what needs to be unbolted and how to reach the plugs?
