Hay Brandon, here is the Ebay listing for the Bluetooth OBD II Scanner I have. There are others on the market. And I'm not sure which one other members have. But I haven't heard any bad reviews on them.
I think you have to get one that works with your iPhone. I have an Android, but in my description it explained there was a fix for the iPhone 5. I know DBaldwin has it. And I think The Leprechaun has one too. Not sure what phone system they have.
The app. I'm using is Tech II. I got it from Google Play store. I have to assume that it's available at the Istore!
Good luck, hope you can get up and running soon!

battery is good, starter is good, has fuel, has fuel pressure, has good compression, has spark, new plugs, wires are good coils are good module is good. the only thing i could think off is that the timing chain jumped a tooth, or somthing like that....idk anyone else have this problem? ive tired to check the sel and it said no trouble shoot codes detected.

where is the bcm located on these cars? and how would i be able to tell if that is my problem? also i need to remove my balancer to install my new timing chain, but the threads on the inside of the pulley are stripped, and i cant use a puller tool because of this. ive tried using a two arm and three arm like hub puller? not really a hub puller but same concept. what else can i do to remove my crank pulley without pulling the motor? i want to avoid pulling it because i have already done so much with it in there. if i have to could i take off the front dog bones and the passenger side engine mount and the raise the engine on the one side, so its high enough to have room?

Based on what you've said, I'm going to guess electrical problem. I know you said it sparks, but it sounds like you have an intermittent problem, besides the crank pos, cam , or maf sensors. if it didn't run at least for a few seconds with the ether, i don't think you have spark, unless you used way too much, or not enough ether (not an exact science but usually ether goes boom) I would check for loose connections, everywhere. Using contact cleaner liberally on whatever you see won't hurt anything. It's expensive, but if you use it in 1/4sec bursts (more than enough) a small can lasts a long time.

I don't think you said, when you try to start it, does it bump over a little like it kinda wants to start?

Did it run like crap since the first no start problems? (even on and off a little)

I really wouldn't rule out spark unless you can see a good spark coming off one wire while trying to start !ZAP!

What is the lim gasket or lim, uim, ui plenum?

it would crank and try to start. it has spark i had every plug out and the all spark (brand new plugs) so ik it has spark. lim- lower intake manifold uim-upper intake manifold. the plenum is just the black piece that sits on top of the motor on n/a 3800 series 2 motors. well after i thought i fixed the leak it started and ran great, then it started to have a misfire (had a loose wire) so i shut it off fixed it then changed the oil to get all the water and coolant out. and then it wouldnt start. so i went back, had spark fuel, ect. got some new plugs in it tried to start, cranked it maybe 4-5 times and then did some research and someone said my timing chain could have jumped a tooth. so thats what im in the process of doing.

when doing my timing chain how do i know if the timing is set the right way. can someone link me to a good write up on here, i looked and didnt have any luck

You have to Pair it to the phone or pad. When you turn the Bluetooth on in your phone or pad, it should search for Bluetooth devices you can pair with. In that list, your elm should come up. The code for it can be 00000 or 12345. It should tell you in the little owners manual that came with the device. It should have also come with a disk or SD card for your laptop or pad. You have to install the software before pairing so the laptop/pad knows how to talk to the elm. If you are computer savvy and know all of this, I apologize.
The red light comes on when it has power. The other lights stay off until it is paired. I have hooked my Vgate to my Monte, the wife's Altima and yesterday a Co - workers Audi.
Also, Did you get the App.?
