I did my K&N myself. If i can do it anyone can. I have heard negative things about the K&N but I am not about to rip mine out. I am going to insulate the box I do have and seal it to my ram air hood with some type of weather stripping.

If I had it to do over again I would get the CIA or Wizzard.

I'd like to know about the hood too. How much? Did you put it on yourself? And this may be a stupid question - what does the Ram air hood do for the car besides make it look good? Brings in more air (oxygen) to the engine thereby making internal combustion more efficient? Keeps the engine running cooler because of the additional air flow?

just for the hood they are near $900 then you gotta add paint and shipping. so really it would be a pretty expensive hood. i really want one but i cant swing that much right now

I bet to have a shop put the headers on for you it would set you back at least $300 minimum. Lot of work there, probably have to remove the engine or almost remove it I suspect.

And to Possum, the RAM air does as you imply, insures delivery of colder air directly to the air intake source. Since the air is colder and denser the added oxygen leads to more efficient combustion and hence more horsepower for you. And you will see a better MPG from the more efficient burning of fuel. It is a spendy option, yet there is a real purpose and as a bonus it does give the Monte's a bad *** appearance. With that being said, most of us would not install our own new RAM AIR hoods. You would need to take it to a decent auto body shop and have them fit it, tweak it around, then remove it and have the hood painted per your color scheme. Fair amount of work there. Bet it would set one back about $300 or there abouts. Nice Monte you have Possum......

The headers wouldn't exactly be cheap.
HEADERS at Doug Thorley Headers dougthorleyheaders.com

There is a link for thorley, I do plan on eventually getting a set for my monte, however the headers will void your warranty. Also, the engine cradle has to be lowered and drop the engine down or something similar must be done to actually get the headers in place, so it can be quite a process.

As for the air intake I have a K&N I'm happy with it, but as others have said other brands can be more insulated and somewhat better, the install on these however isn't overly complicated. The K&N comes with fully detailed instructions and pictures for most everything.
