Default Brake lights so not work

So I'm working on my uncle's 72 monte carlo. His break lights do not work all of a sudden. We replaced the rear light harness, as well as installed a new brake switch and also turn signal switch. I have 12v coming from the fuse to the brake switch and leaving it, but only when I have the turn signal switch disconnected. As soon as I connect the turn signal switch I lose 12v on the white wire coming from the brake switch as well as the orange feed wire. All other lights work perfectly fine and I've read as much as I can find on here referring to the brake lights. Does anyone have any insight as to why I would be losing my voltage when I hook up either the new or old turn signal switch?
