Ok so i bought my second monte this past sunday from a local dealer. On the way home the passenger side of the motor caught on fire. It only managed to burn a wire plug but other then that everything is fine. I recharged the battery and fixed all the wiring but now it wont fire. it cranks just fine but it just doesnt want to fire. its a 1980 monte with a 305

 

is it trying to fire or is it just cranking. i'd change the cap and rotor.

 

That's kinda wierd. This happened on the way home from the dealer? Did you contact them about it?

 

Yeah, I would have a few complaints with the dealer. Does it crank or do anything?

 

i'd take it back to the dealer, it shouldn't be your responsibility to fix it, should be theres, but yah, since a wire caught fire check the cap, rotor, and distributor if you dont feel like taking it back to the dealer you got it from

 

Like everyone else is saying, check the cap and rotor. But I would call the dealer right away and tell them a thing or two. They probably had no way of knowing though.

 

ok well i got the damn thing to run and i have no idea how i did it. All i did was take the cap off and rotor out put it back in and turned the car over and it fired. But that was the least of my worries. I got it to the shop and when we got the scope out and started listening to it we heard alot of chatter. So we started digging in to it and every single wrist pin was done for. So after 5 days of no sleep and alot of parts runs we found a 350 and got it in there. Took it out for the test drive today to work and when i went to leave for lunch it was pouring rain and i never got the hood on. Needless to say **** just aint going right with this monte.
